Election of Member Nominated Trustees – Deadline extended

It has been brought to my attention that a number of people did not receive a copy of my recent letter in relation to the election of two Member Nominated Trustees to the ESB Defined Benefit Pension Fund. That issue is now being addressed and in the interests of making sure that all eligible members have an opportunity to apply to be considered as a candidate for the role of Member Nominated Trustee, the closing date for applications has been extended to 29th April 2016.

If you did not receive a letter regarding the application process and feel you should have, please contact 01-7026879 or email pensions.

Full details of the application / selection process are set out in a booklet entitled “Becoming a Trustee of the ESB Defined Benefit Pension Scheme” available from the Pensions Office.

New ESB Archives Website

archives-20160413-2.jpg

A beta version of the new website from ESB Archives is now available to view at esbarchives.ie.
The site will officially be available to the general public before the end of April.

The site provides a virtual archives experience outlining ESB’s unique history and showcases a selection of fabulous photography and video from the collections held at ESB Archives, Harold’s Cross, Dublin 12.

More content will be regularly added to the site as ESB Archives staff continue to work through the digitisation process but already the site contains a substantial amount of rich material on ESB including…

  • Story of the Shannon Scheme
  • Rural Electrification
  • ESB Advertising through the decades
  • A visual portfolio of all our generation stations between 1927 & 1987
  • Every ESB Annual Report since 1927
  • An online version of every book published by ESB

As 2016 marks the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Rural Electrification scheme we have provided an interactive map showing when electricity was connected to each of the 792 rural areas. We will continue to populate information for each area and hope that staff an ex staff members may have some stories and even photos to share from these locations.

ESB Archives was established in 1991 and has collected and preserved some wonderful material. The collections reflect the unique contribution ESB has made to the economic and social development of Ireland. We are very excited to be able to share these memories and stories through our new web site.

ESB Angling Club – Carp Fishing

Our first coarse competition of the year is planned for Toomans (Co. Leitrim) on April 24th. Toomans is probably the best carp fishery in Ireland and a favourite for the club https://www.facebook.com/ToomanFishery/timeline.

Despite the unseasonal cold weather, competition results are still good in Toomans with typically 40-80lbs needed to win.

Costs have yet to be confirmed but are likely to be ?25 per person. There are full tackle facilities at Toomans and as always there will be lots of experience on hand for less experienced anglers or complete novices.

If anyone is interested in this event or other ESB Angling Club events please contact Club Secretary, Peter O’Hagan on 087 9815904.
