Staff of ESB International prove that charity starts in the workplace.

esbi-charity-1.jpg

A whopping €12,000 has been raised by staff of ESB International for charity, with the proceeds going to causes nominated by the staff themselves. Charities to benefit include Brother Kevin’s Capuchin Day Centre, Pieta House, Women’s Aid, St. Francis Hospice and the Peter McVerry Trust.

The money was raised through a range of staff functions that were hosted by ESB International. In total, twenty different charities will receive a donation – all of them nominated by participating staff.

Speaking at the handing over of cheques to the various charities, Brother Kevin Crowley from the Capuchin Day Centre commented that

Poverty is an issue that affects more and more people in Ireland each year and it is gratifying to see ordinary people play their part in helping to resolve the problem. Charity begins at home and it is fantastic to see the staff of ESB International reaching into their pockets to help a range of charities that are in chronic need of additional funding.

ESB International Managing Director, Ollie Brogan, praised what he called
the goodhearted people that I get to work with every day‘ and expressed his confidence that an even bigger sum would be raised over the coming twelve months thanks to the generosity of the company’s staff.

Be Inspired to find The Power Within

power-within-20160722-b.jpg

Only 0.0001% of the world’s population get to call themselves an Olympian, a very small group of extraordinary people whose unwavering self belief propels them to do extraordinary things. As part of its sponsorship of Team Ireland for the Rio Olympic Games, Electric Ireland has been shining a light on our Olympians and how they use their own mental strength and The Power Within to achieve their dreams. Electric Ireland wants to inspire the Irish public with these athletes’ stories and encourage people to look within themselves to realise that we can all unlock the Power Within.

Although they may not be Olympic athletes, Joe and Kay O’Regan from Wexford are proof that the power is within all of us to achieve great things. The eighty year old couple ran their first marathon when they were 50, when most people are giving up running. 30 years and 142 marathons later, they finished their last marathon in June, in Cork, hand in hand. Their determination and strength of spirit is inspiring in equal measure.

The O’Regan’s have teamed up with Electric Ireland to share their amazing story of mental resilience and fortitude.

Speaking about what they believe The Power Within means, Kay and Joe O’Regan said, “People thought we were mad, that you don’t start running at 50, but the longest journey starts with the first step and if we can do it anyone can. The Power Within is about looking inside yourself and having belief in the things you can achieve.”

Watch Olympic Diver, Ollie Dingley as he tells his Olympic Story

Ollie-Dingley.jpg

As part of Electric Ireland’s Sponsorship of Team Ireland for the 2016 Olympic Games, we have teamed up with Olympic Diver, Ollie Dingley to create a short video outlining his story and revealing where he finds his Power Within to achieve his Olympic dreams.

Oliver Dingley has revealed that his tenacity and self belief inspired him to be relentless in pursuit of his dreams.

As a child, Ollie struggled with shyness; however, he used diving as his solace to allow him to escape into a world where he could express himself openly and ambitiously. No matter how much he struggled during the day at school, in the evening, he would go diving and do something he loved which gave him great motivation to succeed.

Ollie has admitted to struggling with confidence and doubting his ability during competitions, and believes that the positive power of the mind is crucial to achieving successful performances. Now, as he prepares for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Ollie is confident in his ability and will use his inner strength and Power Within to achieve his dream of competing in the Games. To see his story, watch his Video and share it using #ThePowerWithin.

Watch the Video here at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cr0gR72KDQ

The Power Within is about giving Team Ireland athletes a platform to tell their own stories of how they have overcome disappointment and used their self belief to realise their dreams of becoming an Olympian.

Each and every member of Team Ireland have reached within themselves to unearth The Power Within. Our ambition is that these stories will inspire the Irish nation to look within themselves to find their own Power Within; whether it’s the strength to plough through the final kilometre of a 10km run or find the courage to go for that job promotion.

Thanks everyone and keep an eye out for more exciting Team Ireland initiatives, competitions and updates!
