Farewell & Thanks

Retirement of Martin Cleary, HV Stations Mgr NW /
After almost 42 years of ducking and diving, wheeling and dealing, fun and mischief, I have decided to hang up my boots and head off into the sunset or Mexico. I joined ESB as a graduate in July 1980 and was initially assigned to a role in what was then Meter & Test Section based in Rathmines. I then spent a number of years in Clanwilliam House working in “Terms for Supply”, “Special Services” finally ending up in ESB Contracts where I got my first glimpse of life outside “The Pale”. In January 1991, I made the momentous decision to move with my wife Veronica and our two young daughters across the Shannon and relocated to Castlebar in Co Mayo. Both for job satisfaction and family life, I know now that this move was probably the best decision I made in my career. I subsequently moved to Sean Mulvoy Road, Galway in 1997 and have remained there ever since fulfilling a number of different roles including Area Manager, Technical Support Manager, and for the last nine years HV Stations Manager North West. I have enjoyed each and every minute of my career, I have worked with great colleagues too many to mention, made some good friends across Networks, E&MP and Eirgrid. If I were to sum up my almost 42 years in ESB Networks, it would be along the lines of the Frank Sinatra’s song “My Way”. Finally, I would like to invite friends and colleagues to join Veronica and I on Friday evening 27th May at 8pm in the “Office Bar” Salthill, Galway for a few drinks and a night of reminiscing Good Bye and Good Luck to you all, it has been a pleasure and great fun.
