Farewell & Thanks
Michael Joe Barrett is retiring / John Scully
After 40 dedicated years’ service Michael Joe Barrett has decided to announce his retirement. Michael Barrett began his ESB Career on 30th March 1981 in Ballina working under his Supervisor Mick Devine.
Shortly after, Michael attended Portlaoise training school where he completed his Linesman training. Michael worked in Ballina as a Linesman for a number of years before returning to his native Belmullet where he took up the position of Area NT under his Supervisor Paddy Leach.
Michael has remained in Belmullet as an Area NT giving faithful service to the ESB and the people of Erris up to this present day. Belmullet is situated at the tip of the Erris Peninsula in North County Mayo an hour from the local depot of Ballina, ESB serves 2600 customers on the Peninsula, everyone one of which i have no doubt Michael served faithfully during his 40-year Career. Michael was an ambassador for ESBN in Erris and was the go-to man for all things ESB related on the peninsula. I must also mention and thank Michael’s Wife Patricia who, worked tirelessly behind the scenes over the years answering calls and conveying them to Michael. At times the Barrett hous was like an ESB call centre. Whenever a no-supply call for Erris came in, invariably, Michael would know about it, have assessed the fault, and reported back to Ballina if it was manageable or if help was required.
Whenever I rang Michael with a fault call in Erris, he rarely required the MPRN, usually the householders name was sufficient. When a Ballina repair crew was heading for an Erris fault, Michaels pre assessments would ensure that the crew were fully prepared for what was facing them upon arrival.
Michael has been such a huge part of the Ballina Area team over the years, we all enjoyed his great witty sense of humour and will be missed by us all. Michael is a great community man, heavily involved throughout the years in his local GAA, the Erris Agricultural Show and a loyal supporter of Mayo’s ongoing quest for Sam. Retirement will I’m sure give Michael more time to spend on these interests and his beloved Connemara Ponies. On Behalf of ESB and all your friends in Ballina, I would like to wish Michael and Patricia a Happy and Healthy retirement and thank you for your dedicated service to ESB and the Erris Community over the past 40 years.
A message from Pat O’Shea, EO on his retirement /
Hi All, as I leave the Company today after nearly 42 years’ service I would just like to extend a Big Thank You to all the friends and colleagues I have worked with since I started as a General Workman in Newbridge Yard all those years ago. The only advice I can give you is remember your Health is your Wealth. So Keep out there. All The Best. Pat.
