Farewell & Thanks

Kevin Niall, ESB Networks is retiring / Bríd Griffin
After 40 years of dedicated service to ESB Networks, our good friend and colleague Kevin Niall is retiring, and his last working day is the 10th June. Kevin’s first working days were spent in Distribution Department, interspersed with a number of years in Dundalk and Kilkenny. It is true to say that Kevin’s stronghold has been Distribution Department and he has been one of the leaders through its times as Distribution Department, to Asset Management and now Network Assets. The period of 1995 to early 2000’s was a period of transformation where ESB Networks became a Regulated business with an income stream.
What we take for granted today, Kevin was at the heart of this change, were he led out on the fundamentals to introducing a regulatory model for the electricity industry. This included the setting up of the DUoS Tariff (which also enabled market opening), the introduction of Standard Connection Charges and the agreement of the very first Price Review – DPR0 – in 2000, for 1 year only! After which the official PR1 started in 2001. Kevin’s expertise in subsequent Price Reviews were instrumental in achieving successful outcomes. In more recent years Kevin’s focus has been on Assurance, including the ISO accreditation, which, by the way, he was a first in Ireland in leading ESB Networks to achieve back in 1998 as PASS 55. So, in short Kevin’s career is covered with firsts and watershed moments. Kevin is also a first-class colleague, friend and highly respected across the wider industry. Kevin will be greatly missed in ESB, however we wish him a long happy retirement as he focusses on his many interests. Unfortunately, due to Covid 19 related restrictions we cannot celebrate Kevin’s retirement in person but we are having a virtual event on 10th June at 4.00pm. So, if you would like to join us for that event please email me at mailto:brid.griffin@esbnetworks or my colleague Rachel O’Connor at mailto:rachel.oconnor@esb.ie and we will send you the details in due course.
