Farewell & Thanks

Bijay Brahma is leaving /
Bijay Brahma started in ESB in May 2018 and has worked on the hub team for the past three years. He has been involved in various important projects and improvements in that time. Bijay was a pleasure to work with, his technical knowhow helped us on many occasions, I have learned a lot from him in the short time he has worked in ESB. He will be missed and on behalf of myself, the hub team and the wider ESB I would like to say thanks to Bijay for his service over the past three years. I’d like to wish him all the best in his next endeavour. Friday the 2nd July will be Bijay’s last working day for ESB.

Derek Patterson is retiring /
After nearly 42 years’ service, Derek Patterson has announced his retirement. In that 42 years Derek has never missed a days work which shows his dedication to the Company. Derek has worked in the Transmission HV Lines for most of his working life and has worked in every Major project the Company has been involved in. From building the first 400kv line in the country in Limerick and Clare to the first Fibre rapping lines in Dublin and Meath to the first 110KV Live line work in Cork and Kerry to working on the first HTLS Conductors in Waterford and Wexford. There is not too many counties in Ireland Derek hasn’t worked in. Derek was a pleasure to work with and will be greatly missed at both a personal and professional level by so many of his friends and colleagues. On behalf of all his friends and colleagues in the company I would like to wish him a long and happy retirement. Unfortunate due to Covid related restrictions, we can’t celebrate Derek’s retirement in person at this time but we hope to mark this milestone with him later in the year when hopefully the restrictions will have continued to ease. Best Wishes Derek for a long and happy retirement.

Dave Byrnes, ESB Networks is retiring / Killian Morgan
After nearly 43 years’ service, Dave Byrnes is set to ride off into the sunset this week. Dave has enjoyed an extensive career in different roles and a range of locations. He started as an apprentice fitter in Ardnacrusha and from there moved to Test Services in Head Office providing advice to generating stations around the country. He then moved to Rosbrien and the Panning team in the Customer Services business in Networks and finally found his way home to Enniscorthy and the New Business team where he has spent the last 18 years providing expert advice to customers, colleagues and a wide range of other stakeholders. He has developed and sustained a reputation as an expert on all aspects of the commercial business and has guided countless customers through the connection process with all queries dealt with in a practical and straightforward way.
He will be greatly missed by colleagues from across the business and by customers and external stakeholders who have had the pleasure to deal with him throughout his ESB career. On behalf of all his friends and colleagues in the company I would like to wish him a long and happy retirement. Unfortunately, due to the current restrictions, we can’t celebrate Dave’s retirement in person at this time but hopefully we will be able to have a suitable event later in the year. In the meantime we will have an online event on Thursday at 3.30pm to say goodbye.
