Tim Noonan is retiring, EMP /
After more than forty years of dedicated service, Tim Noonan will be retiring from ESB on August 31st. Tim joined the ESB in 1980 having graduated from UCC with a BE (Hons) in Electrical Engineering. Tim started his career in the Design & Project Management Group of the then Transmission Department where he was involved with equipment specification, tendering, procurement and factory acceptance testing; Substation design; project management; construction supervision; and Substation commissioning. He joined Asset Management Services in 1990 as a consultant in HV Substation maintenance with particular focus on equipment condition monitoring; assessment and diagnostics; root cause fault investigation; corrective maintenance; and life extension technologies. In 2005 Tim took up the role of HV Substation Senior Specialist. This role involved developing life management technologies; condition monitoring, assessment and diagnostics; root cause fault investigation; corrective maintenance; and life extension practices while leading a team of transformer specialists. Throughout his career Tim has made significant contributions to the wider HV Substation and Power Plant arena with the publications of numerous technical papers and membership of Cigré Working Groups while also representing ESB on a number of study committees. Tim has been at the forefront of ESB International’s innovation of condition based maintenance (CBM) since the early 1990’s. He worked on the development of frequency response analysis (FRA) as well as the development of a diagnostic FRA software package which ESB International sold to several European & American Utilities. Tim presented papers on FRA at Doble and Cigré conferences and contributed to Cigré working groups on the subject. In addition to his involvement in domestic & International projects, Tim provided invaluable mentoring to graduate engineers in Asset Management Services (AMS) where he also convened the AMS Specialists Forum. Tim’s extensive knowledge and expertise has been invaluable, and he has made a noteworthy and positive contribution to the success of ESB both at home and on international projects. Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, it is not possible to celebrate Tim’s retirement with him, in person. However, we look forward to celebrating with Tim, later in the year, when we can give him the proper send-off that he so deserves.
