Jim Gilbert, Networks is retiring / John Doyle
After 48 years of dedicated service , our colleague Jim Gilbert has decided to call time on his long career in ESB on Friday 5th June
Jim joined ESB as an apprentice in 1972. After qualifying as an electrician, he worked in metering and as a skilled cable jointer in the old Dublin South district for a number of years, during this time Jim went to Ghana working for ESBI for a short period . Jim then joined the training centre as an instructor delivering training to ESB and external apprentices and then returned to Dublin South for his first supervisory role as metering supervisor in Leopardstown Road, finally moved to his present role as Technical Service’s Supervisor for Dublin Region.
Jim’s technical knowledge and skills is well known by his colleagues , he has been the go-to technical expert for many years and provided great advice and solutions to problems on our networks . Jim was the main contributor on a wide number of technical and safety guides/videos including the LV commissioning procedure introduced as a Company procedure and has recently completed a review of this procedure .
Jim also made a huge contribution to the continuity performance in the Dublin area with developing and implementing processes to monitor and improve continuity performance using OMS and completing studies on network performance and providing solutions, these are been adapted nationally ,
Jim’s contribution to the company and his willingness to help and share is knowledge and experience with colleagues particularly younger staff is very much appreciated
Jim is a keen music lover with rock music and heavy rock one of his favourites, , he is a long-suffering Man United supporter and enjoys a wide variety of sports including supporting the Dubs and will now have more time to enjoy these. Unfortunately, due to current Covid 19 restrictions , we can’t celebrate Jimmy’s retirement in the usual way , but we hope to have a get-together to mark the occasion at a later date. We wish Jim & his family a long, happy and healthy retirement.

Bugsy Cullen is retiring / Paul Gunning
Pat (Bugsy) Cullen is due to retire from ESB this Friday 5th June after just over 41 years’ service.
Pat started his career in Castlepollard office in 1979 until it’s closure in 1988. He transferred to Longford for a year and then to Mullingar where he has remained. He served on standby and as DTE for many years and has been a great colleague and friend to many and has always led by example.
Pat is known to many for his involvement with St Luke’s Bikers where he has helped to organise an annual fundraiser for St Luke’s Hospital.
Due to Covid 19 a retirement function for Pat has been postponed for now. Anybody wishing to be associated with a presentation to Pat may contact Paul Gunning CS Mullingar 087 7647002.
We wish Pat a long and happy retirement with Ann and hope in the not too distant future you will be able to get on the many road trips you have planned. We wish Pat a long and happy retirement.
