Farewell & Thanks

Retirement of Seamus McLaughlin /
Following 40 years’ service in ESB Group, Seamus McLaughlin has decided to retire to pursue other interests and opportunities. Seamus joined ESB on Sept 1st 1980 (coincidentally his birthday) having graduated from Trinity College Dublin , achieving overall 1st Place in the Faculty of Engineering in that year. He subsequently obtained an MSc in Engineering Design and an MBA.
Seamus held a variety of roles on many thermal projects for ESB during his early years. He later had overall responsibility for the introduction of Computer Aided Engineering and Design capabilities into the then construction departments of ESB Group.
He joined ESB International in 1989 where he spearheaded the management & development of key engineering design, quality assurance and project management methodologies crucial for the delivery of major projects at home and overseas. Seamus has worked on overseas assignments in many regions, including UK, Africa, Asia, and Middle East. He has always been willing to share his considerable knowledge and experience with others, to the benefit of the organisation. He was a long-time member of the ESBI SMT with key overall responsibilities for the delivery of engineering design and project management services to ESB and external clients. He also had overall responsibility for all key engineering resources.
More recently he has been extensively involved in a variety of Strategic Management & Business Development roles – including the comprehensive update to the ESBI Strategy completed in 2019. This work will provide a solid base to underpin the rebuild and growth of this key brand for ESB Group in the years ahead.
I would like to thank Seamus for his enormous contribution to ESBI/ESB Group and I am sure you will join me in wishing him all the very best for the future.
Seamus’s retirement date is Oct 1st and as it is not possible to meet up with colleagues and friends at the moment an event to mark his retirement will be planned when circumstances permit.
