Bereavements

Thanks from Paul Glynn / Paul Glynn
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my ESB colleagues and friends for their support following the recent sad passing of my much loved Mam, Alice.
I was so greatly appreciative for all the emails, messages, WhatsApp’s, texts and phone calls received as well as condolences posted on RIP.ie – these provided me and my family with comfort and solace in these unusual of times. I hope you and your families stay safe and well. Thank you, Paul Glynn

People Leaving

Gerry Rathborne is retiring / Robert Donaghy
After 43 years of distinguished service in ESB, our colleague Gerry Rathborne is retiring.
Friday 29th May marks Gerry’s last working day as HV Cables Specialist in Engineering and Major Projects.
Gerry joined ESB as an apprentice in 1977. After qualifying as an electrician, Gerry worked in Networks on numerous projects including URD replacement and the supply to Blanchardstown Shopping Centre. Gerry took on progressively more senior roles in ESB Networks including Engineering Officer, HV Cables Project Supervisor and Project Manager (Cables & Lines) based in Inchicore. During this period many significant transmission cable projects were completed and, through Gerry’s leadership, major improvements in safety culture were implemented, culminating in Gerry’s team winning the ESB Networks Gerry Campbell Safety Award.
In 2012, Gerry joined the HV Cables team in ESB International. He played a central role in the successful completion of many cable projects and was a key member of the team which developed the award winning innovative submarine cable repair habitat.
Gerry’s in depth knowledge of the construction and maintenance of underground cables is unrivalled and all Gerry’s colleagues in Engineering and Major Projects appreciate his willingness to share his knowledge and experience, particularly with younger staff.
We wish Gerry a long and happy retirement. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we look forward to celebrating Gerry’s retirement at a later date.
