A day without a road death would be our wish and hope for every day of every year. 25,500 people were killed on Europe’s roads in 2016.
111 people have been killed on Irish roads to date this year, a reduction of 24 on the number of people killed in the same period last year.
The aim of Project EDWARD is that no-one should die on the roads of Europe on Thursday 21st September 2017. • Our roads are a shared space and road safety is a shared responsibility.
• Think about how you use the roads – Small actions can lead to significant, life-changing improvements. • Don’t let your driving habits endanger others or yourself.
You have the power to make a real difference by making a simple choice – e.g. check your tyres, drop your speed, use your dipped lights, wear your seatbelt.
The Traffic Police network in Europe (TISPOL) has organised the EDWARD initiative, which is being supported by An Garda Siochana and the Road Safety Authority at home.
EDWARD’s support reaches far across Europe, the European Commission, all 30 TISPOL member countries and a growing number of road safety organisations are pledging support on 21st September. Please join us and support EDWARD.
