Seapoint Rugby Club is located in Kilbogget Park, Ballybrack and caters for over 500 boys and girls predominantly from the Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown constituency. We also have three adult teams, with our 1st team playing in Division 2C of the All Ireland League.
We will be running our biennial themed fundraiser on Friday, 1st February in the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel, Killiney. This years event is called the €20k Drop (based on The Million Pound Drop format). Important to note that if you buy a ticket and can’t attend on the night you can nominate someone that will be there (like myself!!!!) to play on your behalf. There will also be an auction with some highly sought after lots: • 4 Category 1 tickets to the Ireland-England 6 Nations game on 2nd Feb • 4 Category 1 tickets to the Ireland-France 6 Nations

Sports & Social

ESB AC Couch to 5k / athletic.club@esb.ie
New Year, new challenge
3 sessions a week, 8 weeks and 5k – are you ready?
2019’s Couch to 5K kicks off across ESB next week.
Programme
Officially 8 weeks (in practice often up to 12 weeks if people miss days), 3 x 30 minutes sessions each week, expect to do 2 at work at lunchtime with one independently at weekend. The attached Excel Spreadsheet shows the programme and is very widely used in many countries as a successful way of developing a fitness level to be able to run 5k. 30 minutes includes walking warm up and running intervals.
Programme is supported by a freely available app that you can download Approach
Each coach may take a slightly different approach to getting the best out of the programme for individual participants. You can start at week 1, day 1 or join in later if it suits
Competition
This is not a competition. The only competition is each participant competing with and against themselves. It is unimportant that participants run at different speeds and are different fitness levels. It is important that participants make a commitment to themselves to put in enough effort to give themselves a chance of success. Motivation
Running as a group is great for creating motivation, building support, camaraderie, and for having some fun. This is a fun social occasion where the focus is on helping people get more active and build towards being able to run a 5k. We have yet to have a graduate who has gone on to compete at the Olympics, its ok to aspire to move closer to that goal!:-) Gear / Equipment
The most important thing for running is your runners. Make sure they are suited for running. We will be running on grass initially, so they may get a bit mucky.
Dress for the weather conditions, in the early stages, the walking intervals are more frequent, so you may feel the need for additional clothing. Simple rules; • Check the weather before you head out.
• You can remove layer is you get to hot, add them if you cool off, but if you haven’t brought the layers, you can do neither.
• We train in all weathers. We haven’t been out in a blizzard ‘yet’. Red weather warnings excepted. Why?
Sitting is the new smoking according to many health experts. Most of us sit for long hours. 30 minutes of movement will go a long way to counter balance all the sitting. Good for your health and wellbeing:-
• improved cardio vascular health
• stress reduction
• improved bone density
If you would like to run a local Couch to 5k in your area please get in touch Best of luck to all involved
Yours in Sport,
ESB AC Committee
