Events & Launches

Brian Matthews Telecom Services memorial walk /
As you know our good friend and colleague Brian Matthews passed away on the 11th of July.
Brian’s constant positivity and good humour in the face of adversity was never failing and to honour his memory and mark his passing a walk has been organised on Friday the 12th October at 3:30 pm from the ESB’s offices in Clanwilliam to the Red Light House (Poolbeg) on the great south wall.
https://lovindublin.com/dublin/looking-for-something-to-do-take-a-sunday-stroll-along-the-great-south-wall-walk
Brian was well known throughout ESB and those of you who knew him well would know that he was a keen walker and that even during his illness he would get himself out and about at every opportunity.
On the day we intend to leave Clanwilliam at 3:30 pm and google tells me that the walk there and back should take about 3 hours to complete (the round trip is 14k)
In addition to the walk we intend to make a presentation to Louth Specialist Palliative Care Services and if you’d like to make a contribution to this worthy cause you can make a Paypal donation to my Paypal account; derekjones448@gmail.com (all contributions will be acknowledged individually and a total amount contributed circulated afterwards). Please mark your payment with “Brian’s walk”

Fundraising

Fund raiser for Pieta House in memory of Michael Moran (RIP) / Eoin Waldron
The family of the late Michael Moran, former Project Leader HVD&C Inchicore, are organising a fundraising walk in memory of Michael. Details below:
Mick Moran was the son of Michael and Margaret, the eldest of 3 and father of a beautiful girl, Sophie. He started his career with ESB and was very proud to be part of the organisation. He got his engineering degree with GMIT in Galway and completed his Masters with UCD. Upon completion he was promoted regularly within ESB Networks. He joined the FCA (as it was) in 1998 and excelled up the ranks to Quartermaster. He took great pride in every challenge he undertook and put everything into achieving it and celebrating his successes. Mick took his own life on 06 October 2017.
In memory of Mick, on 30 September 2018 Mick’s brother and 3 close friends will set out to walk from Eyre Square in Galway to Kinlough in Leitrim, a distance of almost 200km.
The walk will take place over 7 days with a number of bucket collections each day along the route. All proceeds for the walk will go to Pieta House.
The walk recreates a walk which Mick himself undertook in 2004 raising almost €10,000 for charity. The 4 walkers will carry Mick’s backpack, sharing the load between them. Visit www.ShareTheLoad.ie to donate to Pieta House.
Details of the last leg of the walk are on the attached photo.
Memorial Services for Michael‘s 1st Anniversary Mass will take place in Kinlough, Co Leitrim at 7pm on Sat 6th October and Lucan, Co Dublin at 10:30am on Sun 7th.
