Engineers Without Borders -Engineers Ireland Event / Orla Burke Date: Tuesday, 11 September 2018

Engineers Without Borders is an NGO and registered Charity dedicated to bridging the gap between academia, industry and NGOs to give Irish engineers and scientists opportunities to learn about and contribute to sustainable development globally. Their mission is to partner with disadvantaged communities to improve their quality of life through education and implementation of sustainable engineering projects.This event will provide an overview of the work of EWB including development education initiatives, overseas development projects in Nepal, Philippines and Kenya, volunteering opportunities and their European Union funded project to build critical understanding and active engagement for UN Sustainable Development Goal “SDG” 11 with a focus on land rights, disaster resilience, slum upgrading and equality About the speaker
Declan Alcock, Chartered Engineer.
Declan is a Director with Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Ireland. He has 18 years’ experience in Building Services Consultancy and Sustainable Building Design on a wide range of educational, healthcare, commercial and residential projects. He is currently Project Director for Sustainability with Varming Consulting Engineers and a Director of the Irish Green Building Council (IGBC).
Declan has 7 years management experience in Humanitarian Engineering as a Director of Engineers Without Borders (EWB) Ireland including building partnerships with NGOs, Industry and Academics for research and project implementation in developing countries. Admission

Edward (Ned) Peacock Retirement Function / Sean Nevin
Update to previous annnouncement on the retirement of Ned Peacock.
To celebrate his long career in Networks Training Centre, Ned’s retirement function will be held in the Midlands Park Hotel, Portlaoise on Friday, September 14.
Ned would like to welcome his very many friends and colleagues throughout ESB to attend.
Please ensure to be at the hotel at approx 8.15 as proceedings will begin shortly after that.
