ESB and Apprenticeship Council launch Generation Apprenticeship Taster Times /
ESB are proud to enter into their second year of sponsoring the Generation Apprenticeship competition in partnership with SOLAS which promotes the best teamwork, leadership, creativity and problem-solving skills of Ireland’s apprentices. More than 70 apprentices are competing in this year’s competition including four of our very own ESB Networks Apprentices.
This year we are introducing taster sessions as a new addition to the programme. The taster sessions will be held in 11 different locations around the country and will be a great way for the general public to see what an apprenticeship is like in practice and what opportunities they offer.
Our own ESB Apprenticeship Open Day is taking place in Gateway on Tuesday, 19th March where we will open our doors to Secondary Schools to give all students the opportunity to meet some of our current apprentices and find out what being an ESB Networks Apprentice looks like through our virtual reality experience.
Keep an eye on our social media to see our ESB Networks Team reveal their Generation Apprenticeship A creation and to see how they get on in the competition. To find out more, go to www.apprenticeship.ie.

Environment & Sustainability Lunch & Learn / Gearóid Greaney Title: Developing the NIE Biodiversity Guide
Date: 20th of March 2019
Venue: Gateway 3 Conference Room
Time: 12:30 – 2:00pm ( Skype starting at 12:45pm and light lunch available in conference room from 12:30)
In the latest instalment of the 2019 Environment & Sustainability Brighter Future strategy engagement lunch and learns, we welcome Alastair Ussher and Kevin McDowell, NIE on developing the NIE Biodiversity Guide.
Alastair Ussher is the Environment Officer in NIE Networks. Kevin McDowell is the Head of Health, Safety and Environment.
In 2018, NIE developed a guide for their field employees to Northern Ireland’s native animal species and important plant types. The aim was to help take proper care when coming across habitats and to know what to do in order to protect Northern Ireland’s biodiversity.
The Guide has been a major success in helping employees to identify key species and to take the correct steps to avoid disturbing them. It has also had the effect of raising awareness and changing behaviours among employees in helping to protect Northern Ireland’s living heritage.
Alastair and Kevin will describe the need they saw and the steps they took to address it through the Guide and the results that have been successfully achieved.
There will be tea, coffee and light lunch from 12.30. The presentation will be followed by Questions and Answers.
For anyone wishing to join the lunch & learn in person or via skype please email gearoidgreaney@esb.ie to book your place.
