People Leaving

Paddy Whelan is Retiring / Noel Heffernan
After 39 years (and 70 days) of distinguished service in ESB, our friend and colleague Paddy Whelan is retiring.
Tuesday the 16th June marks Paddy’s last working day in Networks as Engineering Officer in Naas.
Paddy joined ESB in May 1981 as part of the local area crew working on the distribution system in Athy. He then moved to Transmission Department in Inchicore working in HV cables.
In 1984 Paddy moved back to the old Naas area office where he worked on the overhead network.
With the move to the new office in Naas Paddy took on a more senior role in ESB Networks working as an Engineering Officer where he used his extensive knowledge on lines & cables. This work involved dealing with new connections, line alterations and large maintenance projects to name but a few.
Paddy’s in-depth knowledge of the construction and maintenance of lines & cables and his willingness to share his knowledge and experience, particularly with younger staff will be greatly missed.
We wish Paddy a long and happy retirement. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we look forward to celebrating Paddy’s retirement at a later date.
