Health, Safety & Wellbeing

Safety Week – Is your bike Winter Ready? / Safe Cycling Group
With less availability of light, wet and slippery roads due to leaves, rain or frost, it is particularly important to ensure that your brakes and tyres are up to the task of stopping you quickly and safely when required. If your bike is your main mode of transport for commuting, then committing to keeping it in safe working order, by getting it serviced at least twice a year will cost you less per week that one standard adult bus fare.
To encourage cyclists to get their bike checked out and winter ready, we have been in touch with a number of local bike shops to secure various bike service deals for the duration of safety week; Dublin 2-
Dublin2Bike, Erne Street Upper – 50% discount on same day service. €22.50 full service plus 10% discount on parts Freeman’s Bike Shop, Bath Avenue – €35 full same day service Dublin 3 –
Little Sports Bikes Fairview – 25% discount on same day service & bike wash. €30 full service and bike wash.
To avail of these offers drop into the shops with your ESB ID and mention the safety week promo when booking in your bike. Airport –
Coyle Cycles will be on site on 23rd October to provide winter ready bike inspections to all on site cyclists wishing to avail of it. About the Safe Cycling Group
The safe cycling is an informal group of commuter cyclists based in and around our central Dublin locations, whose sole objective is to promote safer cycling. Cycling safely, like all other road use is a behavioural issue and we seek to encourage all ESB cyclists to be exemplar on the roads, a measure which will help influence other cyclists to cycle safely but will also reduce the risk and exposure of ESB cyclists.
Safety Week – Light Up Campaign / Safe Cycling Group
During the week we will be out talking to cyclists about the importance of being visible as we get into the darker winter months, when much of our commuting time can be in darkness. Seeing and being seen are fundamental to arriving safely and having a safe journey. Take some time to ensure your lights are in good working order, that you have a backup and other appropriate cycling gear to help you deal with the winter weather safely. We will also be distributing supplementary bike lights during the week.
If you are in the market for new bike lights, we have secured a 10% discount code for See Sense smart bike lights; Code: CYCLESAFETY10 https://seesense.cc/ (N.B this is a limited code, if it doesn’t work, please email brian.magee@esbi.ie and he can get another one issued) About the Safe Cycling Group
