YOU DID IT! / ElectricAid

Yesterday, Pat O’Doherty generously committed to match funding the next €5,000 raised in our Haiti appeal. We were then on €7,000, and needed to get to €12,000 to draw down the full €5,000 in "double your money" funds from ESB. I’m delighted to tell you that we are now (Tuesday evening, 18.10) at €12,600, which means a full extra €5,000 for the suffering people of Haiti. We thank every donor, and we thank Pat. So far, we are in a position to commit €27,600 for relief and recovery in Haiti, including what we have already spent from our own resources. We’re not stopping here! The needs of 1.25 million affected people are enormous; every Euro counts and makes a difference. If you have not done so, please donate now at https://electricaid.ie/join-electricaid-esb-payroll/ making sure to change the drop-down to once-off, and tell your friends! Thank you from ElectricAid – we never cease to be amazed by the innate generosity of the entire ESB community.

National Slow Down Day 21/10/16 – 22/10/16 / ESB Road Safety Bureau

An Garda Síochána appeals to drivers to participate in ‘National Slow Down Day’ An Garda Síochána are conducting a major speed enforcement operation all across the country in a bid to reduce speed-related collisions and injuries. As of today’s date there have been 148 road deaths, an increase of 24 fatalities on this date last year. Slow Down Day runs from 7am on Friday 21/10/16 until 7am on Saturday 22/10/16, and consists of high-visibility Garda activities in all 1,031 speed enforcement zones. Updates will be available throughout the day using #slowdownday Gardaí are warning motorists to slow down and not to speed on the roads tomorrow. Speaking in advance of Slow Down Day, Chief Superintendent Aidan Reid of the Roads Policing Bureau said: There has been a significant increase in road deaths this year compared to 2015 and unfortunately, excessive speed is a major contributory factor in the majority these. This is not just a catchphrase, but a stark fact proven by the analysis of four years of fatal collision reports. The higher the speed, the greater the likelihood of a collision happen and the more severe outcome of that collision. Recognising this fact will not only protect you, but all those who share the road with you. Rule of thumb – 1% Reduction in Speed = 2% reduction in collisions 3%reduction in serious injury 4% reduction in fatalities
